Free TON is a multiblockchain platform with a throughput of millions of transactions per second.
Free TON was based on a TON (Telegram Open Network) protocol. TON was a project of a platform that had messaging services, pay operations, cryptocurrency called Gram, data storage, etc. The idea of the project belongs to the Durov brothers.
The advantage of TON was that such a platform could allow absolutely all users to use information resources freely. The goal of this project was to circumvent state blocking and tracking systems.
The founders of TON managed to attract a large number of investors to the project, some of them even had to be abandoned, since the plan was exceeded: the cost of creating TON was estimated at $400 million. The project was preparing for launch. The platform currency was called Gram.
Everything changed in October 2019, when the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) demanded a ban on the release of Gram. The SEC did not consider that Gram was a cryptocurrency. In May 2020, Pavel Durov announced the termination of work on the project, since, in his opinion, SEC claims made the launch of TON impossible.
In May of the same year, the Free TON project was launched, but it had other founders: the community of developers, validators, etc. The platform currency was called TON Crystal.
At the moment, the main goal of Free TON is to achieve complete decentralization, although the project reached partial decentralization in December 2020. This means that the platform will not have any "central" computer or person who will be responsible for everything. Each user will be responsible for his own actions, related to the platform. This will ensure information freedom.
